 A Little Crazy

A few years ago, well maybe more than a few, I started selling clothes through party plan. A little crazy at the time as my mother was not impressed that I gave up my lecturing role to do it. Little did I know the life lessons and roads (and continents) I was going to travel. Direct Selling has been my life, career and passion.

As we approach International Women’s Day in 2019, I am proud to have been part of this industry for over 25 years. One that has such a strong focus on empowering women to take control and change their future. It changed mine. From selling clothes to CEO and so much in-between the training and development gained, has enabled me to do so much more with my life.

Building a business is not easy, you need support, training and a lot of resilience. These skills, that I learnt from building a successful business have seeped into all parts of my life and now help me to follow another passion outside of direct selling. The love of marathon running. Just a little crazy.

When I was overwhelmed by what it takes to be successful in this business, a sales leader of mine turned and asked me…

“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.“

Months later I was sailing around the Caribbean, having won a trip with that same party plan company. I learnt how to set goals and do whatever it takes (within reason) to achieve them.

Fast track to my running passion and I have spent the last ten years running. I have run over 10,000kms in order to achieve this past weekend’s goal of completing the 6 world major marathon series.

It has not been without hardship, injury, setbacks and barriers much like building an entrepreneurial business but one by one I ticked them off. 11 marathons later I have achieved what few others have.

More than a little crazy you might say…

I didn’t do it by myself. My direct selling career has taught me that.

You don’t go it alone. You ask for help & you have to train. You make sacrifices.

I shared the goal with friends & family who have empowered me, allowed to me follow this crazy dream and even run one marathon with me.

I have grown as a person and am a better person for being a little crazy.

The same as in my direct selling career, a little craziness made moving to Australia real and led me to the Executive Director role of the Direct Selling Australia.

So what’s my recipe for eating this elephant called life? Channel your inner crazy, find your passion, attract your tribe and run with it. Then bite by bite your best emerges!
