David H. McConnell didn’t originally intend to create a beauty company. A traveling book salesman, he founded Avon in 1886 after realising his female customers were far more interested in the free perfume samples he offered than in his books. In 1963, operations began in Australia, followed by New Zealand in 1978. Today, Avon is the world’s largest direct-selling beauty company, with the largest cosmetic colour palette in the world, and four lipsticks sold every second. Avon is sold through more than 6 million active independent Avon Sales Representatives globally.

But Avon is not just about beauty. For 129 years, Avon has stood proudly behind women, helping to empower and uplift by providing a unique earnings opportunity and by supporting charitable causes that help to advance the position of women in society. Avon is proud to support organisations like White Ribbon Australia, Shine New Zealand and the Australia and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group, to whom Avon Australia and New Zealand made its largest ever charitable donation of $1 million in 2014.
